CONSCIOUS IDENTITY

Section III, Soul & Body, May 2007

We read in the book of Psalms Chapter 27:4,8 "One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple." The psalmist's desire is to dwell in the conscious identity of the Lord. The common belief that identity is made up of a bodily formation that is distinct from others, is dwelling in physical identity, which is a mortal illusion. "When thou saidst, Seek ye my face;" Obeying the command of God to seek His face, not our own, identity is found in the sameness, oneness, and likeness to God. This is identifying ourselves intelligently and consciously with Soul, beauty, creativity, innocence, poise, spontaneity, warmth -- "my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek."

Mrs. Eddy tells us that "The recipe for beauty is to have less illusion and more Soul, to retreat from the belief of pain or pleasure in the body into the unchanging calm and glorious freedom of spiritual harmony. (Science & Health p 247:31)" The opposite of Soul, conscious identity, is physical identity. Physical identity fluctuates and changes. Material sense has no absolute standards for beauty. Its five senses cannot give us information about God's man -- our true conscious identity.

Conscious identity, found in Soul, is completeness, consistency, and harmoniousness. You are the ISness of Soul. Beauty "...dwells forever in the eternal Mind,... (S&H 247)" Beauty is never in the object that is being seen as beautiful. Using spiritual sense we can see that beauty is in what the object signifies. "Too soon we cannot turn from disease in the body to find disease in mortal mind, and its cure, in working for God. (Mis 343)" Become conscious of the fact that there is only one Mind, because there is one God (and body is not god).

Affirm: I AM the perfect likeness of Mind. I can be conscious of and manifest only the pure and perfect spiritual ideas of health, harmony, happiness, and peace.
